History of Imam Khomeini Hospital Complex

At the beginning of the 1300s, Tehran's hospitals were not enough for the clinical training of students and responding to the needs of patients, and the medical school could not fulfill its responsibilities effectively. Therefore, the government board at that time decided on 23 Bahman of 1306 AH to provide a hospital for the training of students so that the health department can respond to the patients.

From the purchase of the land of the Health Department of the Ministry of Finance, the construction of a hospital was started, which was initially named as the 500-bed hospital, and on May 15, 1308, the first tender announcement for the building was published. The German engineer Ernst Kopp is contracted to prepare the building plans.

With the start of the Second World War and the entry of the allied forces into Iran, the construction of the hospital was stopped and it was occupied by the allied forces, and a large number of Indian, Polish and British troops were stationed there. The government of Iran has been responsible for the protection of the extremely precious property and foundation that was imported from Germany and accumulated in several hospital warehouses. The occupation of the hospital continued until 1325, that is, until the end of World War II. There is no reliable information about the exact date of the opening of the hospital, and probably the official opening for its reopening has not been done.

Perhaps the cause of this issue was due to the special conditions of the country after the war, and according to the available evidence, from the end of 1325 to 1327, hospital departments from other hospitals were gradually transferred to this place or new departments were established there. The general and internal surgery departments were the first departments that were transferred from Waziri Hospital to this hospital, and it can be said that the hospital has officially started its activity in this way.
