Introducing Cancer Institute:

The establishment of "Cancer Institute" in Tehran was proposed for the first time in 1325 under the title "Iran Cancer Institute Establishment Plan". But this plan was not implemented.

In 1328, a contract was signed to establish a hospital for the treatment of cancer patients.

In 1334, its half-completed building on the eastern side of the then thousand-bed hospital (now Imam Khomeini Hospital Complex) was ready for operation, when the cobalt unit started its operation. On the same date, the "Cancer Chair" was established in the Faculty of Medicine.

In 1336, all units of the cancer hospital, i.e. surgery, radiology, clinic, laboratory, pathology, were formed and started working.

In 1337, the plan to establish a "research center" of the Cancer Institute was proposed to the program organization and approved.

In 1341, the plan to form cytotechnology classes was proposed and approved. Also, in the same year, the "Experimental Cancer Research Plan" was approved and the laboratory where experimental animals were kept was established and started working.

In 1345, the Iranian Red Lion and Sun Organization (Red Crescent) handed over the cancer hospital with all its equipment to the Tehran Medical School. In this way, the Cancer Institute was completely and completely provided to the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Tehran.

In 1349, the cancer scientific research center, the cancer chair and the cancer hospital were merged and the cancer institute for research and fight against cancer was formed and continued its activities based on the new constitutions.

After the victory of the Islamic Revolution (1357), due to the country's priorities, while continuing the educational and research activities, most of the institute's activities were focused on treating patients and providing diagnostic and therapeutic services.

In 2016, a special office was formed in Cancer Institute to implement the "Tehran Hospital Cancer Registry" project. In this year, the initial idea of establishing the "Cancer Research Center" was proposed by Mr. Dr. Abolqasem Abasahl (the then head of the institute) and with the support of the late Dr. Ashraf Al Sadat Sanei (then the research assistant of the Ministry of Health), this center started its work with the Tehran cancer registration project. did

In 1383, the process of granting in-principle consent to the establishment of the "Cancer Research Center" was carried out in the Ministry of Health, Treatment and Medical Education, and in 1385, the Council for the Expansion of Universities and Educational and Research Institutions of this Ministry officially granted definitive approval to this center. .

In 2012, the "Cancer Biology Research Center" started working as the second research center of the Cancer Institute after receiving an in-principle approval at the location of the "Experimental Cancer Research" unit of the Cancer Institute. Considering the role and importance of experimental and mathematical modeling in cancer diagnosis and treatment, this center was first known as "Cancer Model Research Center", but in 2016, it was named Cancer Biology Research Center, after receiving the approval in principle at the 260th meeting of the Development Council. Universities of Medical Sciences of the Ministry of Health officially started their work. Experimental research groups, molecular epidemiology, cancer genetics and computational oncology are among the scientific groups of this center.

In 2013, the third research center of Cancer Institute started its work with the title "Cancer Radiation Therapy Research Center" after receiving the approval in principle.
